The Real Gospel!
You hear various religious denominations claiming to be or have the "true gospel" and wonder, 'How does this all even make sense?', 'What is the gospel anyway?', and 'Why would there be different ones?'
Well, there is really only one true gospel when it comes to our relationship with God. To keep it short and simple, the word 'gospel' isn’t really a word we use. A more literal translation is 'Good News.' The gospel isn’t some earthly religion, nor is it some fleeting or mysterious idea. The gospel is the Good News that Jesus our savior came and redeemed us! Now, this may not make much sense if you didn’t realize you needed a savior, but, to those who wrote the accounts of the life of Jesus and Jesus himself, they knew this was Good News, indeed!
Why were people awaiting this Good News? Well, if you read the Old Testament, you learn of a long history of a people who were aware they lived in a sinful, fallen world and that they, because of their sin, would die. They also knew, because God had made it known through prophets, that someday a redeemer would come and take away sins, giving eternal life to those who believe in Him. He has the power over sin and death. They looked forward to this day! He came and His name was Jesus! This is why this news, or story, is called the 'gospel.'
The Good News is that the savior came and redeemed those who believe on him, giving them a rebirth of spirit. This spirit being the Holy Spirit of God giving us eternal life!
The danger one faces is falling for a false gospel or not believing in God at all. There are many false gospels in the world. The devil has many tricks and deceptions out there that look and sound good, but are nothing more than cheap counterfeits of the truth. If you truly seek, and really hunger and thirst for righteousness, you will find it. When you do, you will have to make a decision. Don’t be like the rich young ruler Jesus spoke to who turned around! Instead, take up your cross and follow Jesus Christ, for He is the only one who has the words of life!
With love and the good news of Christ, I desire nothing more than God’s will on earth as it is in Heaven.
